Ian Cheng: Life After BOB

Fan Contests

For Life After BOB (LAB) by Ian Cheng – an exhibition foregrounding the possibilities of conscious agency in an age marked by the captivating power of technology – viewers are invited to enter their creative responses to the cinematic universe to win exciting prizes from the limited edition of Life After BOB collectibles.

In a Fan Fiction Contest, visitors can submit their contributions to the LAB wiki, an open-source platform that allows viewers to adapt and co-create entries about objects and characters from the film. A separate Fan Art Contest invites audiences to submit illustrations and drawings inspired by the exhibition. All submissions will be reviewed by a jury consisting of the artist and the curator of the show.

Fan Fiction Contest

Write the next chapter of Life After BOB (LAB)

Were you inspired by your visit to the exhibition and do you want to actively participate in shaping the LAB universe? Then submit your wiki entries to our Fan Fiction Contest!

The 50-minute film The Chalice Study is the first episode of what is planned as an eight-part anime miniseries by American artist Ian Cheng. Set in a not-so-distant future wherein human intelligence and AI merge to optimise human life, it follows a set of characters who navigate the turbulent consequences brought about by this technological advancement.

All objects and characters in the film are catalogued in the Life After BOB wiki. The LAB wiki is an open-source platform that allows viewers to adapt and co-create entries, thereby actively forming the world of Life After BOB and possibly inspiring future episodes or adding meaning to already existing parts of the story. The wiki indicates which entries can be edited and which are still missing. Please only submit entries for characters, objects or events that have already been created in the wiki but have not been written yet.

You can send your wiki entries to [email protected] by 17 October 2022 for a chance to win collectibles specially designed by LAS and Ian Cheng for the exhibition. All three winners will be selected by a jury consisting of the artist and the curator of the show and announced on 24 October. Your entries will be added to the Life After BOB wiki and selected fan fiction and fan art entries will be shared on the LAS website and on our social media accounts. All prizes can be collected at the exhibition venue Halle am Berghain at the information counter in the entrance area before 6 November. We will ship prizes to winners located outside of Germany by 1 December.
